Prof. Dr. Axel Klausmeier talks about the vital role that historical heritage plays in our society today, from his experience as director of the institution that looks after the memory and preservation of the Berlin Wall.
In commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the exhibition “The Berlin Wall. A World Divided” created by Musealia together with the Berlin Wall Foundation, has become a vibrant space at Fundación Canal, where the past meets the present to offer a profound reflection on history, memory and contemporary society.
Thus, as part of the cultural program organized by Musealia, Prof. Dr. Axel Klausmeier gave a fascinating talk last April in the Mateo Inurria auditorum of Fundación Canal, where he immersed us in a reflection on the crucial role played by historical heritage in our society today.
“Knowledge of history gives us the responsibility of coming to terms with it […] and reconciling with the complex part needs thorough research” – Prof. Dr. Axel Klausmeier.
A lesson where he reminded us that historical heritage is not simply a set of objects or monuments, but a tangible link to our collective past that informs our individual and collective identities. A reflection on the importance of historical heritage in building a more informed, empathetic and connected society, as well as the dynamic and crucial role played by cultural institutions in the preservation and dissemination of history.
