05.10.2024

An interview led by Joaquín Estefanía with Felipe González, President of the Spanish Government during the fall of the Berlin Wall, inside of the “The Berlin Wall. A World Divided” exhibition .

“I lived very intensely that time, the fall of the Berlin Wall and its consequences. […] Everyone was talking about German unification, and very few wanted it. Because there was still the memory and the fear of the war” – Felipe González.

Felipe González, Prime Minister of Spain from 1982 – 1996, was one of the first European leaders to fervently advocate the unification of the two Germanies after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

In this intimate and revealing interview, conducted by the distinguished journalist Joaquín Estefanía, the former president narrates how he lived the first 48 hours after the fall of the Berlin Wall: who was he communicating with, what were his concerns?

Offering a view from a political perspective, the conversation between Felipe González and Joaquín Estefanía explores the cultural and social implications of the fall of the Wall, discussing topics such as European unity, the struggle for freedom and the importance of dialogue and international cooperation in conflict resolution.

With this interview, Musealia kicks off the Cultural Program that we celebrate in parallel to the exhibition “The Berlin Wall. A World Divided” in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a historic moment that marked a milestone in world history.

A program designed to immerse our visitors in the events and emotions surrounding the fall of the Wall, offering them a unique and enriching perspective on this event that changed the course of history.
