The night of the 9th of November, after the unexpected press release that shook up the global media, thousands of Berliners from ‘both sides’ approached the Wall. The hammers and chisels of the ‘Mauerspechte’ (Wall woodpeckers) resounded loudly. The Berlin Wall began to fall.
To mark the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the exhibition The Berlin Wall. A World Divided presented last 6th of November the concert “Echoes of Freedom” by the guitar duo Essener Gitarrenduo, formed by Stefan Loos and Bernd Steinmann.
An event that took place at the Fundación Canal as part of the cultural programme that has been developed throughout 2024 with different activities around the exhibition stay in Madrid, which has already been visited by more than 160,000 people.
The German duo captivated us with a performance featuring ten pieces from their albums ‘13. August 1961: Der Mauerbau’ (13 August 1961: The Building of the Wall) and ’9. November 1989: Der Mauerfall’ (November 9, 1989: The Fall of the Wall), featuring a series of songs with Spanish guitar that recounted the most important events of the construction and fall of this symbol of the Cold War. An hour-long concert that took us on a musical journey through some of the most pivotal moments in recent history.
This event marked the final activity of Musealia’s year-long exhibition stay in Madrid, which will conclude on January 12th.
